(Providence-R.I.) -- The WLNE-TV/ABC6 Stormtracker team has been awarded the WeatheRate seal of approval as the most accurate television weather forecasting team in southern New England. WeatheRate is the only independent weather forecast verification company in the United States.
"We all know how important weather is in New England and how quickly it can change. Every day and every night, Fred Campagna and the ABC6 Stormtracker team work hard to provide accurate forecasts. That hard work has earned them this prestigious award,” stated WLNE-TV/ABC6 News Director Robert J. Rockstroh. “We are proud to have four experienced, southern New England natives forecasting the weather everyday. “
According to WLNE-TV/ABC6 Chief Meteorologist Fred Campagna, “Being certified as the top forecasters in the area is great recognition of our teamwork, solid weather analysis skills, and strong commitment to giving viewers the most accurate forecast.”
“Our high definition computers provide us with the latest, cutting-edge forecasting and graphics technology, allowing us to deliver a forecast that is more accurate, concise, and viewer friendly.” Campagna added.
The WLNE-TV/ABC6 Stormtracker team includes Fred Campagna, Steve Cascione, Chelsea Priest and Matt Lagor.
WeatheRate's patented WeatherTracker II software compared the weather forecasts of WLNE/ABC6, WJAR and WPRI/WNAC for a 13 month period, ending February 29, 2012 with the actual observed conditions to determine which station was truly the most accurate. WeatheRate verified high and low temperatures, sky cover, precipitation, snow accumulation, wind and fog, as well as the forecasting accuracy of severe weather. Through mathematical calculations, WeatheRate determined that WLNE/ABC6 had the best daily, weekly and monthly accuracy and only WLNE/ABC6 receives exclusive use of the WeatheRate seal of approval.
"We are not affiliated with any TV stations or broadcast groups, so we can tell you who's really the most accurate in the Providence/New Bedford TV market," said meteorologist Bruce Fixman, President of WeatheRate.
The ABC6 Stormtracker team delivers "southern New England’s Most Accurate Forecast" as certified by Weatherate, on the air on Channel 6 WLNE-TV/ABC6, online at www.abc6.com , on facebook at www.facebook.com/ABC6News , through tweets and through the stations mobile AP.
