The cameraman with the photographic memory is developing a new picture of success.

Gerald “Gerry” Adler, former manager of the Providence-based Adler’s Photo and Ritz Camera at Adler’s, has recently joined the staff of Hunt’s Photo and Video, 86 Point Street, Providence (www.huntsphotoandvideo.com).

The 40-year-old scion of one of Rhode Island’s leading camera retailers and a well-known imaging equipment expert, Adler has been associated with the camera industry since 1980. After working his way up from sweeping floors, developing prints and making deliveries for Adler’s Photo, the Orange Street business started by his grandfather, Walter Adler, Gerry Adler stayed on with the company through its sale to Perfecta Camera in 1996, its re-sale to Ritz Camera in 1998, and the closing of Ritz Camera at Adler’s in May 2009. When Ritz Camera filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the spring, Adler agreed to join forces with the Melrose, Massachusetts-based Hunt’s, New England’s largest digital imaging retailer.

Noting the longstanding relationship between Adler’s and Hunt’s and the two stores’ geographic proximity, Adler says he felt comfortable as soon as he walked through the door. “I knew I had a new home to go to,” he says.

Adler brings many strengths to his new position as assistant manager at Hunt’s. In addition to his lifelong camera industry ties, he prides himself on his innate ability to pick up any camera, study it overnight and remember everything about it with photographic accuracy. His keen understanding of photographers’ needs, combined with his honesty, warmth and personable manner have built a loyal following of customers across southern New England.

Hunt’s COO Rich Yagjian says the company is delighted to welcome one of the region’s top imaging equipment retailers. “I’ve known Gerry since the early 1980s and I know he’s well respected by hobbyists and professionals as well as those in the law enforcement and education communities for his understanding of his customers’ needs,” Yagjian says. “We are thrilled to have him. He’s knowledgeable about the products we sell and he adds immeasurably to the professionalism of our staff.”
