Paula T. Rogers, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Insurance Department and court-appointed liquidator of Tufts Health Plan of New England (TNE) and Tufts Associated Health Plans, Inc. (Tufts HP), has reached an settlement, subject to court approval, that would resolve all allowed claims against the two companies.

The Superior Court of Merrimack County, N.H., is overseeing all liquidation.

Tufts HP announced on November 22, 1999 that it would no longer fund TNE, its New Hampshire-based subsidiary that also operated in Maine and Rhode Island. TNE at one time provided health coverage to more than 150,000 members. It ceased operations and terminated all coverage on February 2 of this year.

According to Dr. Harris Berman, chief executive officer of Tufts Health Plan, "the agreement guarantees that TNE providers and other creditors will be fully paid for their previously allowed claims," and it "will have no impact' on Tufts' Massachusetts business, which through its affiliates offers health care coverage to 925,000 members.
