The East Providence Area Chamber of Commerce, City of East Providence, and the non-profit organization, People’s Power & Light, have joined efforts to increase awareness of and participation in National Grid’s ratepayer-funded energy efficiency programs. The initiative, Energy Smart East Providence, focuses on educational outreach to East Providence homeowners and small businesses. This program is only being offered in East Providence and Cranston.

Over the past few months, People’s Power & Light has presented to the East Providence City Council, canvassed with Brown University RISCC (Rhode Island Student Climate Coalition) members, and is now wrapping up their outreach efforts in the City.

Local residents, businesses and their employees will have a final opportunity to purchase a box of ten energy-efficient light bulbs, two night lights and two lamps for only $10; a $100 value.

Businesspeople can buy the boxes at the East Providence Area Chamber’s lunchtime, networking event, Business During Hours, on Wednesday, February 22 at the Eleven Forty Nine East Restaurant. Contact the Chamber at 401.438.1212 or office@eastprovchamber.com to make a reservation for the luncheon. The boxes can also be ordered and delivered to an East Providence business by contacting Seth Steinman before February 29 at (401) 861-6111.

There will be a final opportunity for residents and businesspeople to purchase the boxes at East Providence City Hall on Friday, March 2 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The East Providence Area Chamber encourages East Providence businesses to take advantage of the Small Business Direct Install program which allows every East Providence small business with a National Grid bill to receive a no-cost, no obligation business energy assessment. In additional, National Grid will pay up to 70% of the costs for recommended energy efficiency upgrades. Small business owners can even pay for the remaining costs on their electric bill with their energy savings.

Small business interested in scheduling a small business energy assessment should call 1-877-784-3711. To sign up online visit: www.ripower.org/energy-efficiency/east-providence

People’s Power & Light is a nonprofit energy consumers’ alliance with a mission to make energy affordable and sustainable in Rhode Island.
