Patricia McLaughlin of Providence has been named Director of the Institutional Advancement Division at The Wheeler School in Providence.

McLaughlin is well known in Rhode Island, having served as a Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Johnson & Wales University from 2006-2011, as Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2002-2006 and prior to that, as Director of Administration for the City of Providence. She currently serves as Interim Vice President of Institutional Advancement at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and teaches Law and Political Science at Providence College, her alma mater.

As the new administrative leader for the fundraising, alumni, parent and community relations functions at Wheeler, McLaughlin is charged with advancing the mission of the College Hill-located Nursery-12 coed independent school, which will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2013-14.

Wheeler Head of School Dan Miller said, "We are thrilled to have someone with Patricia's experience, expertise and proven record leading the school's advancement team. It was clear to all of us during the interview and reference-checking process that we had found a candidate of extraordinary talent and energy, and our emphasis quickly shifted to a full-court recruiting effort, which, happily, has brought Patricia into the Wheeler fold."

McLaughlin received her B.A. in Political Science from Providence College in 1984 and her J.D. from George Washington University in 1987. She will begin her duties at Wheeler this November.
