Providence Rhode Island to host Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 pageant and Leadership Institute

The Ms. Wheelchair Rhode Island Foundation and the Ms. Wheelchair Massachusetts Foundation are pleased to announce that Providence Rhode Island has been selected as the location for the Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 pageant and Leadership Institute. The event will take place August 6th-12th 2012 at the Renaissance Downtown Providence Hotel. The Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 pageant and Leadership Institute will bring 35- 40 Ms. Wheelchair state titleholders from across the country to compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2013 and participate in a leadership institute to strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills. In addition, friends and family from across the country as well as people from the area are invited to share in the event by attending the Platform Speech presentation on Friday August 10th and the Crowning Ceremony on Saturday August 11th. Masters of Ceremonies for the events include Stacey Schieffelin of YBF and John DeLuca of ABC6 News.

Ms. Wheelchair Rhode Island Foundation and Ms. Wheelchair Massachusetts are still seeking sponsors for the event. Current sponsors include Permobil, People for Quality Care, BraunAbility, Hudson Seating and Mobility, American Association for Homecare, YBF, and J Ferm. Sponsorships opportunities are still available please contact Autumn Grant at 774-501-1185 or mswheelchairmass06@yahoo.com for information on how you can become involved with this inspiring event.

The mission of Ms. Wheelchair America is to provide an opportunity of achievement for women who happen to be wheelchair users to successfully educate and advocate for the more than 54 million Americans living with disabilities. Unlike traditional beauty pageants, Ms. Wheelchair America is not a contest to select the most attractive individual. It is instead a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities. The selected representative must be able to communicate both the needs and the accomplishments of her constituency to the general public, the business community and the legislature.
